My mother was a strong, hard-working woman. When I was a kid, my mother would sing to me. I was really into music as far back as I can remember, singing along with the radio, performing in the Church at 5 years old, putting on shows at home for the family. When my mother wanted to sooth me to sleep, or if I was sick, she would either sing old hymns or old country music. The main song she would sing, The Browns; The Old Lamplighter. One night, years later, in about 2001, about 4 o’clock in the morning, I was awakened by George Jones’ voice in my head singing a chorus: Mama used to sing, The Old Lamplighter, and what I wouln’t give, to hear her sing it once again. So as much as I hate to be woke up, I got up and wrote the chorus down and went back to bed. The next day the verses came to me and I completed the song. The problem was, the song mentioned her death so I never could sing it for her. So after a while I changed the lyric about her being gone and made it more like she was just getting old. Well as many of you know, after beating lung cancer, she developed Pancreatic Cancer. During this time, I was trying everything I could to raise the money to go to Nashville and record with Doc Holiday. Well it never happened while she lived, but it has happened now, and now the song given to me so long ago, will be released this coming week. Here is a sample of the song, I hope you enjoy it. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, and thank you God, for all you’ve given me, including my mother.
Here’s the Big Announcement!
Well folks, you know that I’ve been trying for 2 long years to go to Nashville and record Mama Used To Sing, a song I wrote for my mother who passed away in 2013. It was her dying wish that I do this with Doc Holiday and his legendary team. In March, I was all set to go when someone stole the money and again my dream was crushed. Well God is always in control, and He has made it happen in the strangest way ever. Regardless, the Money had been sent, Sony studios on music row in Nashville is the place, and I will be recording this song June 29th and 30th! That’s right! The song will be released worldwide and available on all the download sites. The song means even more now with the passing of legendary Jim Ed Brown. My song is about his song, The Old Lamp Lighter, that my mother would sing when I was sick or as a lullaby. This song has remained with me from the time I was born, and I thank God that my mother knew and exposed me to many people in the music or radio business. She gave me the gift of music and much more, I only wish I could have done this before she died. But that’s the big announcement folks, we’ll leave the 28th and return the 1st of July. Please pray the song sells well as it will mean that Doc will get sponsors to pay for me to come back and record an album! Please look up dream machine productions and look at the legends that I’ll be working with! I’ll post a link on my facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/michaelrayrobinsonshow. Thanks for sticking with me, and God bless.
